How to Become a Maria High School Student

Before the Entrance Exam

  • Come to a Shadow Day to experience the school’s atmosphere. Call Ms. Solava or Ms. Fecht  to request a permission slip at 773-925-8686 ext. 181.

  • In order for you to become familiar with Maria, plan to attend an Open House. It is a great opportunity to talk to teachers, tour the facilities, and ask all the questions you may have.

  • In order to be admitted and eligible for tuition assistance you must take the entrance exam at Maria High School. The exam begins promptly at 8:00am.

 

 

After the Entrance Exam

  • Maria High School will require your elementary school records. Please make sure your parents sign and complete the records release form and take it to your elementary school. They will send the records directly to us.

  • The letters of acceptance will be mailed the second week in February along with other important information. Make sure you and your parents complete all forms and gather all the materials requested for registration.

  • Attend the tuition/ tuition Assistance information session with your parents; Maria staff will answer all your questions. It usually takes place in February. You will receive an invitation.

  • Come to registration day in March with all the requested documents and a $400.00 registration fee that will be applied to the first year of tuition. The same day your daughter will be measured for her uniforms. ( In addition to purchasing uniforms through School, gently used uniform are also available at the school at low cost.)

Following these steps will make your transition from elementary to high school smooth and free of stress.

Tution & Assistance ( Financial Aid and Scholarship )

  • For the 06-07 school year, 60% of our students received  tuition assistance amounting to over $500,000.

  • Students/families interested in applying for financial aid must demonstrate financial need by completing a CATHOLIC SCHOOL TUITION ASSISTANCE SERVICE APPLICATION by March 15th, 2007. These forms will be available.

  • Parents / Students who are current students / newly accepted are encourage to attend the tuition / tuition assistance information night on February 22, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Current Maria students’ sisters receive a discount.

  • In addition, Maria offers tuition assistance to families in three ways:
    1. Work Study Program: Students work at school during summer and after school hours to pay part of
                                                   their tuition.
    2. Financial Aid Program: Families who qualify receive partial grants toward tuition.
    3. Scholarships:

    • Academic scholarships: The top ten scorers on the entrance exam receive a partial scholarship of $1000. An additional $500 is awarded to the top two scorers. These scholarships are automatically renewed if the students maintain a 3.5 grade point average.

    • Alumnae Scholarships: Daughters of Maria alumnae may apply for a one-year $500 award.

    • Parish Scholarships: Top scorers coming from Maria’s area parishes may apply for a one-year $1000 award.

    • Maria Kaupas Scholarships: Students demonstrating financial need (as per Catholic School Tuition Assistance Service Application) and academic potential may be invited to apply to participate in this scholarship program which includes financial and academic support as well as student and parent/guardian commitment to the program to insure that the student scholar will be successful at Maria.  Each student participating in this program will receive up to $4000 in tuition assistance each year provided she remains a student in good standing and keeps to her commitment.

  • As your daughter continues her education at Maria, there are several individuals and organizations that offer scholarships to Maria students based on academic accomplishments and/or financial need.

  • Link Unlimited Scholarships Awards granted to any Chicagoland eighth grader who is highly motivated and demonstrates financial need, academic potential and good moral character.
