  Maria High School inducts 48 into NHS(06/20/08)
     Maria High School inducted 48 students into the National 
     Honor Society on May 6. The NHS moderator, Bridget La 
     Porte, announced that these students had met 
     scholarship, leadership, character and service 
     requirements, according to the national NHS guidelines. 
     Administrators, faculty, families and friends attended the 
     event.

     Michaela Dillon admires an especially tempting looking 
     pumpkin at Maria High School’s recent Spring Art 
     Showcase. The 6-year-old niece of Margaret Hayes, 
     assistant principal at Maria, is a first-grader at St. Linus 
     Elementary School. Michaela was visiting Maria to enjoy 
     the many works of showcased fine and applied art and to   
     take in the final performance of “The Wiz,” which Ms. 
     Hayes was directing. The art show’s display of gourds and 
     pumpkins, done in watercolors, was the work of Jennifer  
     Glaz’s Art I students.

Maria celebrates Class of 08 at senior  
     Farewell

     Maria High School seniors Amanda Fortineaux (from left), 
     of Brighton Park; Guadalupe Bautista, of Back of the 
     Yards; Melanie Infante, of Marquette Park; Diane 
     Sahagun, of Gage Park; and Gigi Sotelo, of Brighton Park; 
     show school spirit and friendship May 15 after the Senior 
     Farewell for the Class of 2008. The entire student body, 
     faculty and staff assembled for the traditional Farewell, 
     which signals the 12th-grade class’s final preparations 
     before graduation.

 Maria High School's World Languages Club recently enjoyed a trip to the pilsen neighborhood for a day of  exploring various aspects of Mexican art and culture.

Genevieve created the poster that hangs in the main hallway.

Maria teams play stock market to win

Maria High School team of consumer Economics students recently came in fifth place out of 201 teams in their region, playing The Stock Market Game (SMG).  After choosing stocks for 10 weeks in their portfolio simulation, Melissa Dupart, of South Shore; Brittany Martin, of Englewood; Candice Walker, of Ashburn; and Taylor Washington, of Chatham; increased their team’s original $100,000 cash account to a final equity of $115,132 during  the session running from February 5 to April 25. They returned 13.8993 percent above the S&P 500 during the same time period.

Maria High School to hold registration for 2008-09

Maria High School has set Thursday, May 29, at 5:30p.m.  as an opportunity for eigth-grade girls, who have been accepted at Maria High School or are eligible for acceptance, to complete registration process.

Maria High School steers into 2nd place in teen safe driving campaign .

Maria High School Student Council officers, Vice-President Angie Huddleston (from left), of Dolton; Sergeant-at-Arms La’Tina Scott, of Chicago Lawn; President Angie Sandoval, of Chicago Lawn; Parliamentarian Alaxaundria Keith, of South Shore; Secretary Bernice Adjei, of South Shore; and Treasurer Brittany Branch, of Calumet Park, accept a $1,000 check from Allstate Insurance that is part of a grant to help fund their teen safe driving campaign.
