The Maria High School Department of Fine and Applied Arts recently hosted its annual Winter Arts Showcase that featured the creative talents of close to 50 percent of the student body. Almost 75 percent of the Freshman Class was involved in the show.
Pictured with a display of drawstring bags they sewed in Introduction to Sewing are (front, from left) Adriana Hernandez, Temara Hamilton, Toriana Henderson, Iyana, and Anette Gonzalez; (middle, from left) Shivon Shelton and Rukayet Bello; and (back, from left) Jasmine Horton, Morgan Ware, and Adrianne Hodges.
Other artworks on display in the Auditorium Foyer included many pieces created by Beginning Ceramics and Art Foundation students of Nancy Christian and by Sewing Projects students of Sister Elizabeth Ann Yocius, SSC. Also, entertaining guests on the Auditorium stage were the Mystic Moves dance club, moderated by Bridget La Porte, a Fashion Show by Sewing Projects and Beginning Clothing students, and Keyboard selections by Piano students of Michelle Avila. Songs were performed by Ms. Avila’s Mystic Voices choral club and her Choir class.
To top off the showcase, the Drama Club, moderated by Mary Wood, got into the season with a presentation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Between Acts I and II, students in Sister Elizabeth Ann’s Foods class served refreshments to the many guests who were enjoying the show.
