English Department
The English Department at Maria High School provides the
foundation and support for learning in all other curricular areas by its
emphasis on critical thinking, reading, oral and written communication. This emphasis also prepares students for
higher education or career experience.
Courses in the department provide the essential tools for these skills
and consistently reinforce and expand the knowledge. The design of all courses recognizes
individual student needs and abilities and fosters creativity. The department encourages students to value
themselves as women and to appreciate other world perspectives by reading and
analyzing a wide variety of literature written by women and multicultural
writers.
