Fine and Applied Arts

Applied Arts

Foods and Clothing classes provide Maria students with opportunities to develop skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.  Everyone needs to eat and to wear clothes.  Knowing how to prepare delicious, nutritious foods and to be comfortable in a kitchen is an asset, not only for you and your family, but when applying for  part time jobs.  Being able to sew a split seam, hem slacks or a skirt, replace a zipper, sew on a button, and sew a garment will help students to save money, recognize quality, and maybe discover a talent they didn't know they had.  Students who want to be chefs, fashion designers or go into fashion merchandising will benefit from the Foods and Clothing classes.

Fine Arts Department

The Fine Arts Department consists of four levels of classes.  Students can take Art I, II, III, and IV.  In each of these courses, students learn about the basic elements and principles of art while developing fundamental skills in visual literacy.  Two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums are explored to allow students an opportunity to investigate different art forms as well as develop art pieces that express ideas.  The Fine Arts also develops skills in art criticism and art history.
