CHARITY DAY
Charity Day is an annual Maria High School fun event to raise funds for needy causes. This year’s Charity Day was held in the school gym and auditorium on April 23rd.
Maria High School clubs provided games and food for students and staff who paid a nominal fee. Foods included chocolate covered fruit, chicaronnes, sno-cones, cupcakes, fruit cups, and more. Students and staff played Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Guess the Literary Character, Pictionary, and other fun games. A manicurist and face painter were also part of the fun.
Students also paid $1 to wear either Maria Wear or outfits from the 70s, 80s, or 90s while they were also able to watch video clips of TV shows from the 50s to the present in the auditorium. This year’s Charity Day also featured a Spring Dance, during the day, sponsored by Student Council, featuring Kiss/FM’s own DJ.
Some past recipients of collected charity funds include Southwest Chicago PADS; the San Pedro Youth Group in Nicaragua; Make-A-Wish Foundation; HELPSudan; Nssuka, Nigeria Dollars for Dreams; and a heart transplant for baby Jhaziel Cueval in Bolivia. The funds for Charity Day 2010 will be used for the Maria High School Scholarship Fund.
If next year’s Charity Day is half as much fun as this year’s Charity Day, it will be a huge success!
